HemDem

Datenschutzerklärung

Stand: 11. September 2026

Rechtsgrundlage: Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. b DSGVO.

3. Was du in der App erstellst

Rechtsgrundlage: Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. b DSGVO.

4. Benachrichtigungen

Rechtsgrundlage: Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. a DSGVO (Einwilligung).

13. Was wir nicht tun

14. Speicherdauer

16. Kinder

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 September 2026

HemDem is a Turkish recipe app. It works without any registration — you can install it and cook from it without giving us a name, an email address or a password. You may optionally connect an account so your recipes survive a new phone; only then do we hold an email address (see 2). This policy explains what data is involved, why, and what you can do about it.

1. Controller

Musa Tasci
Email: musatasci2107@gmail.com

2. Anonymous user identifier

On first launch the app signs you in anonymously with Firebase Authentication (Google Ireland Limited). This creates a random identifier (UID) with no link to your person, your email address or your Apple/Google account. It exists purely so your saved recipes, your shopping list and your cookbooks are still there next time. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

Optional account. So that your recipes survive a reinstall or a new phone, you can connect your data to an Apple ID, a Google account, or an email address and password. Only then do we hold your email address — as provided by that sign-in method; with Apple you can use "Hide My Email", so we never see your real one. When you sign in with Apple we also store a token from Apple, for exactly one purpose: so that deleting your account can also revoke HemDem's access at Apple, as Apple requires. It is stored where no app can read it back and is deleted with everything else. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

3. What you create in the app

Under that identifier we store, in Google Firestore, only what you create yourself: saved recipes (references to catalogue recipes, no free text), your shopping list (the ingredients you add and whether they are ticked off), your cookbooks (the names you choose and which recipes are in them), your weekly meal plan (which dish you planned for which day), your favourite creators and categories (which creators and categories you chose for your home screen) and your recipe notes — your own note on a recipe ("less salt next time"). The notes are the one place you write free text that we keep: they are yours, shown to nobody else, and deleted with the rest of your data. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

4. Notifications

Notifications are optional and are never requested at launch — only when you say yes to the question in the app's introduction, when you turn them on in Settings yourself, or the first time you start a cooking timer. Only then do we store a device token from the Expo push service, the platform (iOS or Android), your language code and the time of registration, so we can tell you about new recipes and so the cooking timer can ring while the app is closed. Expo forwards our notifications to Apple's and Google's push services on our behalf. You can revoke this at any time in your device settings. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent).

5. HemDem Pro (purchases)

All recipes are and remain free; only convenience features are paid. Purchases are handled by the App Store — we see neither your payment details nor your Apple ID. To unlock Pro we store, against your anonymous identifier: whether Pro is active, the product identifier, the store, the period type, whether it is a sandbox purchase, whether it will renew, and the expiry and purchase dates, plus the customer identifier of our subscription provider. Because Pro belongs to the installation it was bought on, this record is kept per device under your identifier. If you never purchase, nothing is stored here.

Services used: RevenueCat, Inc. (purchase handling and entitlements) and Superwall, Inc. (presentation and optimisation of the purchase screen). Both receive a pseudonymous app identifier plus device and purchase information; both are based in the USA. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR; transfers based on Standard Contractual Clauses.

If you close the introductory offer without purchasing, we may grant you a one-time 3-day gift of HemDem Pro. The gift ends on its own — it is not a subscription and nothing is ever charged. So that it can only be granted once, we store the time of the grant under your anonymous identifier and — on Android — a one-way hash (SHA-256) of the device identifier in a separate list that contains nothing else and cannot be linked back to a person. That hash remains even after you delete your data, because erasing an account must not reset a one-time gift. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest, abuse prevention).

If you redeem a gift code, we store the code and the time of redemption under your (possibly anonymous) identifier and — on Android — a one-way hash (SHA-256) of the device identifier on the code's own record, so that the same device can redeem the same code again after a reinstall without using up another redemption. No account is required; without one, the gift is bound to this device. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of contract) and (f) (legitimate interest, abuse prevention).

6. AI kitchen chat

When you ask a question about a recipe, your question and the history of that single session are sent through our server to Anthropic PBC (Claude API, USA). The recipe text is added by our server from our own catalogue, not from your device. The conversation is not stored — it lives only while the view is open. Anthropic acts as a processor and, under its terms, does not use API content to train models. Even so, please don't enter personal data into the chat; it is there for cooking.

The AI dish finder ("No idea what to cook?", Pro) works the same way: your description of what you would like to cook is sent through our server to Anthropic together with your app language and a text version of our recipe catalogue, and the answer is a list of matching dishes. Nothing about you travels with it, and the description is not stored. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

You can also dictate your question: tap the microphone button once in the chat or in the cooking mode, and your device's own speech recognition (Apple's or Google's) converts what you say into text. Depending on your device settings, the operating system may send the audio to Apple or Google for that, under the manufacturer's own privacy terms. HemDem itself records, stores and transmits no audio: the app receives only the recognised text, which appears in the input field and reaches our server only when you send the message — exactly like typed text. The microphone stays active only until you finish or cancel; a pause in speaking ends the recognition by itself, so a forgotten button never keeps listening. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

7. Video, images and spoken steps

Videos are delivered by Bunny.net (BunnyWay d.o.o., Slovenia); as with any internet request, your IP address is transmitted technically. Images come from Firebase Storage (Google). Spoken steps are generated by ElevenLabs, Inc. (USA) — only the recipe text is transmitted, no data about you, and the resulting recording is stored and then available to everyone.

8. App updates

At launch the app checks with Expo (650 Industries, Inc., USA) whether a new program version exists, transmitting technical details such as app and system version.

9. Search

When you press search, the word you typed is sent to our search provider Algolia (Algolia SAS). The servers for HemDem are in France — we chose that location when the service was set up and it cannot be changed afterwards, so your search terms do not leave the EU. As with any internet request, your IP address is transmitted technically.

Nothing else about you travels with it: we deliberately send Algolia no user identifier and no analytics events, so one search cannot be connected to another, to a device, or to you. Algolia sees the words you typed — never your saved recipes, your shopping list, your notes or your account.

Nothing is sent while you type; only pressing search sends anything at all. If the search service cannot be reached, the app searches on your device instead, so search keeps working offline. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

10. Anonymous usage counts

To see which recipes and features are actually used, the app counts events on your device — a dish was opened, saved, cooked or searched for — and sends the totals to our own server once per session. Only the numbers travel: no identifier, no third party, nothing traceable back to a person or a device. They are added into monthly totals across all users, so nobody — ourselves included — can reconstruct what any individual did. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in improving the app).

Recipe wishes and feedback: In a few places you can, voluntarily, tell us something: below the search, a dish you are missing; after cooking, whether the recipe worked out; on a recipe, a problem (such as a faulty translation); and in Settings, general feedback. What is transmitted is exactly your input (your choice, your text, and where relevant which recipe it concerns) together with your app language, with no identifier of any kind: a submission cannot be connected to your account or your device, not even by us. They are our to-do list for improving the app and the recipes. Please do not put personal details into these fields; for anything that needs a reply, use the email address. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in improving the app).

11. Usage analytics (PostHog)

To understand how the app is used as a whole (for example: whether the introduction is completed, which screens are opened, how often the purchase screen appears), the app sends usage events to PostHog. The data is stored in the EU (Frankfurt); PostHog is a US company, and we chose the EU region when the service was set up. Events are recorded under your random identifier (UID) and contain identifiers, counts and your language. They never contain text you typed, your notes, your chat questions, or an advertising identifier. If you answer the optional question in the introduction about where you heard of HemDem, we store that answer as well. Your email address, if you ever connect an account, is never sent to PostHog. You can switch this off at any time in the app under Settings → Usage analytics; the app then stops sending usage events from your device. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in improving the app).

12. Crash and error reports (Sentry)

If the app crashes or an internal error occurs, a technical report is sent to Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., a US company; the data is stored in the EU). A report describes what went wrong in the code and includes your app and system version and your random identifier (UID), so we can tell whether a problem affects one person or many. We have disabled the storage of IP addresses for these reports, and they contain no content you typed. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a stable app).

13. What we don't do

No advertising and no ad tracking. No tracking across other apps or websites, and no advertising identifier. No analytics for advertising: the usage analytics in 11 measure only what happens inside HemDem, stay in the EU, and are never sold or shared; the numbers in 10 stay on our own server. No selling or sharing of data for advertising. No access to contacts, photos or location.

14. Retention

Your entries — saved recipes, shopping list, cookbooks, weekly meal plan and notes — remain stored as long as you use the app, and are gone the moment you delete your data. Account data (email address and, with Apple, the token described in 2) is kept while the account is connected. Notification tokens are replaced as soon as your device issues a new one and expire when you delete the app. Chat conversations are never stored in the first place.

15. Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR), and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

With a connected account you can delete everything yourself, in the app: Settings → Account → Delete data. That removes your saved recipes, cookbooks, shopping list, weekly meal plan and notes, your account, and — if you signed in with Apple — HemDem's access at Apple, immediately and irreversibly.

If you use the app without a connected account, your data carries no name and we cannot attribute it to any person. We are therefore unable to identify you, and the rights under Art. 15 to 20 GDPR apply only insofar as you can give us information that locates your data (Art. 11(2) GDPR). Connect an account and you can then delete everything yourself, as described above. Either way, write to the address above and we will help.

16. Children

HemDem is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 16.

17. Changes

As the app changes, so does this policy. The current version is always at this address; the date above shows its status.
